TIDAL TREKKERS

Join our enthusiastic interpreters on our coastal treks and discover all sorts of amazing species that call the Atlantic Ocean home.
Eager to get outside, explore nature, and learn something new? Luckily, Nova Scotia's ocean backyard is teeming with biodiversity!

Join Back to the Sea this summer on our guided trip series to re-discover our coastline and the unique
species that live there.
Where
Explore a variety of coastline trails and beaches within the HRM, many of which are transit-friendly.

Length
Tidal Trekkers programs last about 1.5 hours (1 hour of programming followed by 30 minutes of free exploration with the chance to ask questions and receive interpretation from staff and volunteers).

Themes
Currently offering three fin-tastic programs:

Into the Intertidal

We're willing to bet that the Halifax shore is home to more species of animals, plants, and algae than you thought! This program explores the themes of habitat and adaptations to intertidal living. Join us along the Regatta Point Walkway on the Northwest Arm of Halifax for this program. This program is transit-friendly.

Sea to Sky

We're partnering with Dave Currie, avid birder and past President of the Nova Scotia Bird Society to teach you not only about claw-some sea life, but also about the cool shore birds that can be found in Hartlen Point. Bring your binoculars if you have them!

Exploring Evolution

Join us for an introduction to the concept of evolution on this oceanside trek!  Hartlen Point is well known to Halifax-area birders, but it is also home to tons of amazing intertidal species: Learn how our favourite marine critters evolved to be the fascinating animals they are today.

Interconnected Ecosystems

Learn about the unique interactions between the species of the intertidal at a popular spot right in Halifax, Point Pleasant Park! There is so much to discover about marine animals individually, but the way the way they live together might be the most fascinating lesson of all!

The Tidal Trekkers season has ended for 2020, check back next spring for more coastal adventures!
